What to Expect At Your First Visit

On your first visit to our office the dentist will review your medical history and discuss concerns that you may have regarding your oral health. It is extremely important for you to let us know if you have had any surgeries where metal pins or artificial joints have been placed, allergies to latex or sulfites, heart murmurs, or if you have a pacemaker. Some of these conditions may affect how we perform our procedures. Our main goal is to keep you safe!

Radiographs (x-rays) will be taken to help us diagnose caries (cavities) or other problems with your teeth or bone that may not be detected by simply looking into your mouth. We use digital x-rays that use significantly lower radiation than standard x-rays. In addition, we will do a full clinical exam that includes charting every thing seen inside your mouth such as existing restorations, cavities, and measuring your bone and gum tissue. Each exam also includes an oral cancer screening.

Once the information regarding your oral health is gathered we will discuss recommended treatment and options to give you optimal oral health. If time permits and it is determined that your gum and bone are in good health, a dental cleaning will be completed. You can anticipate your first visit taking approximately 90 minutes to 2 hours depending on your current oral health and the amount of recommended treatment. It is our goal to provide you with the information you need to make the best decisions for your own oral health.
